THE operators of the new Vassall Community Hub have unveiled a showstopper for their opening event – Bake Off star Briony May Williams.
Bristolian Briony, who has become a regular on TV as a presenter and chef since making the semi-final of the Great British Bake Off in 2018, has been invited to cut the ribbon to officially open the new community venue at its Autumn Festival of Food and Fun on Saturday November 2.
The family festival, which includes lantern-making, live music, a fire show and free street food, kicks off a week of taster events for the hub, which is at the Vassall Centre in Gill Avenue, Oldbury Court.
Briony, who has presented Food Unwrapped and Escape To The Country since her memorable stint on the Bake Off, said: “I’m honoured to be opening the Vassall Community Hub.
“It’s fantastic to see such a welcoming, accessible space being created for the community, and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful activities and events planned.
“I hope everyone comes along to celebrate and gets involved.”
‘Cornerstone of the community’
Bristol Charities, which owns the Vassall Centre, wants the Vassall Community Hub to become a “cornerstone of the community”, offering services, activities, and support programmes.
It includes a soft play area for under-5s, a lounge space, and fully-equipped community kitchen.
The Hub already has a range of activities and services booked in, including Tai Chi classes and family support projects.

Vassall Community Hub manager Zoe Williams said: “We are beyond excited to have Briony join us for this special occasion.
“Her passion for bringing people together through food and community aligns perfectly with what we hope to achieve with the Hub.”
The Autumn Festival of Food and Fun runs from 3.30-6.30pm on November 2 and entry is free.
