POLICE have issued a warning over a series of incidents involving a woman knocking on doors in the early hours of the morning and asking for money.
Officers say the incidents have mostly been happening in Hillfields, Fishponds and Mangotsfield, although residents have also reported sightings in Staple Hill and Twerton in Bath.
Several incidents have been reported on Facebook groups over the past week, with people sharing video from doorbell cameras of the woman and a male accomplice in Hillfields.
However the first posts about the woman date back to January in Mangotsfield.
Most of the incidents have happened between 1am and 2am, and a number of people are reported to have handed over money.
The same woman, who has dark hair, wears glasses and a padded jacket with a North Face logo, has also been seen asking for money in Lodge Causeway in Fishponds, telling passers-by she needs it for a bus fare.
Neighbourhood Inspector Barny Mabbett said: “We are aware of a number of incidents in the Mangotsfield, Fishponds and Hillfields areas in which people have been approached at home in the early hours of the morning and asked for money.
“We recognise and fully appreciate the concern and distress this has caused many in our communities and neighbourhood officers are working to identify the people responsible.
“As part of this work, we would urge anyone who is approached to immediately call 999 and report it to us, giving the call handler the reference number 5225 129 994.
“Call 101 with any other information.”
