Woman arrested over early hours door knocks asking for money

A WOMAN has been arrested after a series of incidents where residents had their doors knocked in the early hours before being asked for money.

Details of several incidents in Hillfields and elsewhere in Fishponds have been shared on Facebook groups over the past week, with people posting video from doorbell cameras of a woman and a male accomplice.

However the first posts about similar incidents date back to January in Mangotsfield.

Most have happened between 1am and 2am, and a number of people are reported to have handed over cash to a woman, who said she needed it to get to Bridgwater.

People have also reported a woman with the same description asking them for money in the street and on the Bristol to Bath Railway Path.

Avon and Somerset police, who had asked people to report suspicious activity, said today: “A woman was arrested last night by officers investigating a series of incidents in which people in the Mangotsfield, Fishponds and Hillfields areas have been approached at home in the early hours of the morning and asked for money.

“The woman was handed a Community Protection Warning and recalled to prison.”

The Voice understands that the prison sentence was for burglaries committed outside of the area.

Police said their investigation into the latest incidents is still underway, although no charges have been brought at this stage.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote the incident reference number 5225 129 994.
