HILLFIELDS residents have the chance to help choose a name for a road on the estate.
The cul-de-sac is the access road to Hillfields Park Community Centre and Mama Bear’s Day Nursery, with a footpath leading to Hillfields Park.
Although it has been in use for decades, it has never been given a name and addresses on it are usually described as being “off Thicket Avenue”.
Because the access road runs behind Thicket Avenue, with houses in between, it can lead to confusion, with some people having problems finding the centre, nursery and park.
Now Hillfields Park Community Garden, the charity which took over the community centre a year ago, has been given permission by Bristol City Council to nominate a name for the road, with the winner being announced in April and adopted by the council.
Community garden chief executive Sarah Rogers said: “In December and January, we asked residents to nominate road names and got a whopping 73 suggestions.
“We now have a short list of 10 names for residents to vote on.”
The nominated names are:
*Bramble Lane
*Community Close
*Gert Lush Lane
*Hillfields Lane
*Hillfields Park Road
*Hillfields Together Lane
*Little Thicket
*Next Stop Drive
*Park Lane
*Rec Lane
*Thicket Close
*Thicket Meadows
People can vote online here or pick up a physical voting form at the community centre.
People are being asked to include their postcode when they vote, with extra weight being given to those who have a Hillfields address.
Voting is open until March 27, with the winner announced on April 1.
