Man cleared of stalking charge on appeal

A DOWNEND man has had his conviction for stalking a woman in Staple Hill overturned on appeal.

Kola Adetu, aged 45, had denied a charge of stalking the woman without causing fear, alarm or distress during 2024, but was found guilty by Bristol magistrates after a trial in July last year.

He was acquitted after making an appeal against the conviction to Bristol Crown Court in February, which was unopposed by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Both the conviction and community sentence have been quashed.

At the appeal hearing a new restraining order without conviction was made under the Protection from Harassment Act, prohibiting Mr Adetu from contacting the woman directly or indirectly for ten years.
