Appeal to trace women armed with poles after man is attacked in street

POLICE are trying to trace three people after a man was hit in the face with a pole in Staple Hill High Street.

The victim, who is in his mid-20s, needed stitches and has been left with scarring after the attack, which happened at around 3.15am on September 6.

After spending time in hospital he is now recovering at home.

Officers now want to trace two women and a man in connection with their investigation into allegations of assault causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both women, who were captured on CCTV carrying poles, were described as white, slim and aged around 20 years old.

One had brown hair, was wearing dark clothing, and carried a red pole at the time of the incident.

The other had short brown hair and was wearing a black coat and patterned trousers at the time. The man was also described as white, slim and aged around 20.

He was wearing a dark tracksuit, with the hood up, and had a black rucksack.

Police have shared a still from CCTV they have been obtained of the suspects.

Officers have already spoken to residents and businesses in the area but say “the investigation is now at a stage where we are appealing for help from the public”.

A spokesperson said: “A man has suffered facial scarring during an awful incident which is under investigation.

“We are aware this may come as a concern to residents in the area, but we have not received any reports of a similar nature since.

“However, we believe the people pictured may hold information relevant to our enquiries, and we would appeal to anybody who recognises them to contact us.”
