A PEDESTRIAN has died in a collision with a car in Staple Hill.
The man, who was aged in his 70s, died at the scene of the collision on North Street, near the junction with Pleasant Road, Victoria Street and Hermitage Road, at about 4.30pm yesterday.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which involved a blue Citroen DS3 car, or anyone with dashcam video footage they think could be relevant, to contact them.
A police spokesperson said: “Tragically the pedestrian, a man in his seventies, died at the scene.
“While he has not yet been formally identified, his family are aware and are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.
“They have asked for privacy in their grief, and have our sympathy.”
Roads closed for investigation
North Street and Victoria Street were closed for around eight hours between Staple Hill High Street and Downend Park Road after the collision, as police carried out investigative work and removed the car from the scene of the collision.
Cordons were also put in place on side roads, including Pleasant Road (below).
The road reopened shortly before 12.30am.
The spokesperson added: “Officers spoke with the driver and made no arrests.”
