A TEENAGER from Eastville has been jailed for five years for stabbing a man in a busy street.
Mohammed Akakhail’s victim was in hospital for four days after suffering serious injuries in the attack, which happened on September 5 last year in Stapleton Road, Easton.
Akakhail (pictured above after his arrest), aged 19, of Shamrock Road, also needed hospital treatment after the incident.
Charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article, he admitted the weapons charge but denied the others.
A jury at Bristol Crown Court found him guilty of the GBH charge in April. The jurors could not reach a verdict on the attempted murder charge but the Crown Prosecution Service did not seek a re-trial.
Akakhail returned to the court at the end of June, when Judge Peter Blair sentenced him to a total of five years in a young offenders’ institution.
The judge also ordered that the knife be seized and destroyed, and that Akakhail pay a ‘victim surcharge’ of £228, although he made no order for compensation to the victim.
