POLICE are trying to trace two men who broke another man’s jaw in an attack on Fishponds Road.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was trying to get into a taxi parked in a lay-by outside Alfu International supermarket, after watching the England v Ghana World Cup match at the nearby Van Dyck Forum pub.
Police say the victim suffered significant serious injuries, including a broken jaw in the incident, which happened around 12.45am on June 24, and needed hospital treatment.
Another man who had been with the victim also suffered “non-serious” injuries when he tried to intervene.
A police spokesperson said the two offenders then ran off down Hinton Road.
After carrying out forensic enquiries, talking to witnesses and looking through CCTV from local cameras, police have released pictures of two men who they want to talk to.
The first is described as white, in his 20s or 30s and slim, with facial hair.
At the time of the attack he was wearing white or pale blue shorts, with a T-shirt tucked into the waist band. He was also wearing white socks and pale, grey shoes.
The second man is also white and in his 20s or 30s. At the time of the incident he was clean shaven, wearing a royal blue T-shirt with a logo and large white writing across the back, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the side, a dark blue Adidas cap, and a heavy “link-style” chain around his neck.
Investigating officer Ellen Rye said: “This was an abhorrent incident which left a man with significant injuries, from which he is still recovering, and he has understandably been left distressed by the ordeal.
“While we do not have information which suggests there is an ongoing threat to the public, a thorough investigation is underway, and extensive enquiries have been conducted.
“We are now appealing to any witnesses to come forward, as well as anybody with information on the identity of the men, pictured, as we understand there were a number of people in the area at the time.
“We would also like to hear from anybody who may have relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage from around the time of the incident, which could be vital to the investigation.”
