Road works planned at busy junction

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect delays when work to install a new gas main at the junction of Fishponds Road and Muller Road in Eastville starts tomorrow.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction from Monday until Friday (September 14 to 18) while Wales & West Utilities carries out the work.

The gas pipeline provider says it has worked closely with Bristol City Council to plan the project.

It said: “Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.”

Wales & West Utilities is already working on a stretch of Muller Road on the other side of the M32, near the Aldi supermarket, to upgrade gas pipes.

The project is part of a £15 million upgrade of gas pipelines across Bristol taking place over the coming year.

‘Essential’ work

Wales & West Utilities project manager Ryan Gwilliam said: “This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.

“We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.

We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.

While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.

Anyone with questions about the work can call Wales & West Utilities’ customer service team free on 0800 912 2999 or contact the company via social media.

Wales & West Utilities transports gas to more than 7.5 million people across Wales and South West England through a network of more than 35,000km of pipes.

The company is advising anyone who smells gas to call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately.
