THREE people have been arrested by police investigating a shooting in Speedwell.
Police say a man aged in his 20s was arrested just after 2.30am today on suspicion of attempted murder, and another man and a woman in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Detectives are “not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time,” an Avon & Somerset police spokesperson said, although enquiries are continuing.
Another man in his 20s was taken to hospital with a serious, “potentially life-changing” injury after being shot in Speedwell Road shortly after 1.45pm yesterday.
Armed police could be seen on the streets several hours after the incident as the hunt for the gunman, who is reported to have escaped on an electric bike, continued into the evening.
A number of schools in the area were locked down after the incident, with parents having to wait to pick up children.
Roads including Speedwell Road and Charlton Road (above) were sealed off as forensic investigations took place.
The injured man remained in hospital today.
Police said that he was a passenger in the car that was shot at in Speedwell.
‘Area of interest’ in South Bristol
A police spokesperson said a cordoned-off are in St Anne’s Woods, near Brislington, is “an area of interest” in the investigation, and members of the public can expect to see a heightened police presence in this area and in Speedwell, where armed police were on the streets after the incident yesterday.
The spokesperson added: “We understand that this may have been a very concerning incident, but we have deployed a significant number of resources as part of our response, including the National Police Air Service helicopter, specially-trained firearms officers and drone units.
“We continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, including anyone with footage of the incident.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody said: “This was a shocking incident in Bristol, particularly for the residents, schools, and wider community in Speedwell.
“Violence of this seriousness has no place in our communities. I want to acknowledge the swift and highly professional response from Avon and Somerset Police, who deployed specialist resources and quickly arrested three people in connection with the incident. Their decisive actions will have provided some reassurance about a very worrying incident.
“I understand how concerning this has been for local residents. I will continue listening to communities as the investigation progresses, and I remain committed to working with partners to prevent violence and keep people safe.”
